MASK FINISHED!!!! Have the mask painted and here it is! Hope you like it
One small problem. The mask will only fit my head size and smaller. Guess I need to sculpt even bigger next time. I suppose I am average size, I duno. Oh well it makes for a good wall hanging piece. Also I will still wear it but it will be a very snug fit and a little uncomfortable.
Well its only been a couple days worth of sculpting but I cant bare to keep it a secret from everybody. So without further adieu heres my Dragon mask! Its not completed yet but will be at the end of this week. It will have real horns in it. Rams horns and another beasties horns as well. Along with a pair of resin horns for the eyebrows.
This mask is a part of me it has grown into my soul somehow and wont let go. It's roaring, screaming, hissing and growling to be finished! I will be making more of these for anybody who wants them. The mask due to its complexity will be around $150.00 for a blank unpainted kit.
Day 1: I just slathered clay onto the bust form and started sculpting. Day 2: I printed out some reference pictures of varying dragons and such including a certain anthro dragon who's facial scales I was inspired by. She let me do it Day 3: Was to refine everything and make the bugger moldable. Day 4: Was making it thick enough for people to be able to wear it that have bigger heads than me lol. And I grabbed some foam and carved a horn and slathered it with clay to get it ready for texture and then resculpted the sheathes for this type of horn. I don't think I will use the rams horn idea... Day 5: I just made a mold of the front horns and casted them in white resin. I've been pondering what to do to the back of the head. big scales or do a subtle skin texture over the entire thing... Hmmm... Day 6: I finished the details on the long horn and its in molding process.. A 2 day process to be precise. So the front horns are solid the rear horns are hollow with foam filling. Foam not Cream! I don't want people munching on my horns! LOL Day 7: I've been texturing the head scales "Scutes" [link] and they are nearly done. The long horn mold is nearly complete. If I'm lucky I can cast one tonight but most likely its going to be a tomorrow thing. I am also matching the cheek bone sizes. Looked like the one on his left was a little small. All fixed now. Day 8: Rotcasted 2 horns by hand. OMG what a pain. One is good the other too thin. So I'm going to cast the horns up in a rigid polyfoam a lot easier to handle and guaranteed thickness. Solid but light Day 9: Ok resculpted the jaw because if this dragon was to bite onto something living it wouldn't be able to hold on to it so Ive bulked up the jaw. I have also decided on adding scales all over the mask. Why do I do this to myself? LOL Day 10: Fixed horn positions and almost finished with the scale details. Mind you I'm only spending around 4 or less hours on this a day. Also did the foam horn idea... I don't like it. So back to rotocasting horns but this time it will be a thin resin casting that is foam filled. Also have the jaw detailed so you can tell where the bone and skin is. Just a basic underjaw look. Day 11: Well I decided to sculpt the back half of the mask cause it just didn't look right without it. Thought it would make it easier to put on but that can be fixed after casting it. Day 12: Silicone came in! Molding the bugger today. Will be done with it in a couple days. Long process. Day 13: Mold finished just need to let the plaster dry. Day 14: Casted up a mask and now ready for painting! Day 15: Mask painted! Will post pictures soon
Hmm I might try that. It also would allow for more room for the wearers head in the mask.

Ah, so you have yet to complete the back of the mask. Glad my suggestion could be of interest. I personally quite like scutes - and the rest of that was me being weird.
I saw your raptor beginings on your site. Sounds like you still have interest in it, which I am happy to hear.
LOL wierd is cool
My site will be down for a week since Im transfering it from "Geocities" to "HostMonster". Ya the raptor will always be worked on till its done but its a project that i work on rarily. Too much else going on right now. I am not quite happy with the maquette yet. That and its an old piece. I cant be showing old pieces on here... can I?
